Mood boards are a crucial part of the custom home design process. You really can't get the client's dreams and wishes on paper for their home unless you go through color photographs of the client's vision.
I started my career in commercial design as an entry level draftsman and interior designer in New York City working for the top 5 developers in Manhattan. I moved to Southern California and entered the residential market working with homeowners designing custom kitchens.
The most important thing is to go through the mood board with the client so they can see what they are selecting in full color and 3D. It has to make sense to the client before the building of the home begins. At Julie Laughton Design Build in Orange County, we take the client through the process from conception to completion.
